Final Concept Paper Models

Close ups of the final models

After experimenting with different shapes , materials, textures and foldings , these are the final concept models created.
I tried to incorporate the seating with the structure as much as possible..

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Concept Summaries

This pavilion seating structure was inspired and made by paper folding.
Folding makes any structure more rigid. This pavilion manly consists of seating, continuing and flowing with a wall.  The pavilion can be done using  stainless steel .. Which I think the reflections would make a great effect, with the different shades created on the stainles steel depending on the light. I don’t know if it could be done but if it was to be made in transparent coloured glass or plastic  .. It would create a great effect and a playful atmosphere.
Stainless steel is apropriate for the outdoors because it’s durable, it doesn’t corrode, rust or stain. It is a very low maintenance material.
Stainless steel is also recycable , it is used in a lot of objects and architecture , and can get steam cleaned or steralized.
The best way for it to be done may be  by welding the triangles together, although it wouldn’t be easily stored or have parts replaced.
What I like about this pavilion is that the overall shape is curvy but at the same time it’s all done with  geometric triangles. I think that it would serve as a great meeting place and a place for some shade from the sun.

This pavilion seating structure is very simple , only made with curved long strips. The seating is incorporated into the design of the pavilion and different textures can be used as shown in the model above.
It can either be done with bent wood with different shades or also different textures. And also it can be done using corrugated metal combined with  normal smooth metal to create different textures.
Insted of different textures , some cut outs will also make a great effect, especially with shadows created by the sun.
It is very important that the structure is rigid and that it would be well connected to the plain. It has to be resistant and joint well for safety.  It can either be connected to the ground , or to a thin platform .

This pavilion seating structure was inspired by leaves. The same continuous shape was used to create the structure of the pavilion and also the seating. The shapes can be made in several different thicknesses for a more interesting effect. Even though it’s so simple, a great effect would be created. It would be interactive with the people passing through and people can relax and sit or lie down on the integrated seating.

It would create a relaxing athmosphere because of it’s curvy shapes and flowing lines.
This pavilion can be done with curved wood , or also stainless steel, which have to be assembled accordingly as shown in the model for the desired effect as each section has a different tilted angle.
As I said in cocept 2 it has to be rigid and connected very well for safety.

- Pavilions -

'Learning from nature'

This sculptural pavilion is a green swirling art installation shaped like a Mobius band and is inspired by the biological cycle of life. This pavilion is functional, environmentally friendly and also aestahetically pleasing.  It is three meters high, eight meters long and five meters wide.  This pavilion structure can be touched, walked and sat on, unlike a lot of other structures.
This pavilion is incorporated with a lot of high technology features, including;  Phase changing materials, which regulate the temperature, so the pavilion is warm to sit on when it’s cold and feel cool on a warm summer day. It is also self-cleaning because it also has a photocatalytic effect, which cleans the air around it.

“It’s fascinating to think that people’s activity can generate energy simply by integrating specific materials, just as we can see here where ‘children at play’ create the energy required to run the integrated LED lights, the Pavilion has given us the opportunity to demonstrate, how sustainable and intelligent materials can be used in buildings.”

‘A Pavilion of Pallets’

There are an estimated 2 billion pallets circulating around the world.
This temporary pavilion was created by some students of Aarhus architecture school in Denmark,
using only upcycled pallets .
This sculptural structure is made from stacked pallets in a serpentine wall along the area.

It was created for the intention of interaction with the users , the students could use this area as a unique place to sit , relax , talk and also a place to be used to get some  shade from the sun.

The Pavilion was meant to become an active element in the everyday-life of the school, and not to be only an object. By adapting naturally to the original flow of people crossing the courtyard, it was inviting people to interact with the structure and to follow the strip to come inside a shelter, built all around the tree. Inside, up to 20 people could easily stand and sit down, being totally covered by the pallets.

‘[C]space’

This pavilion is visually striking formed by an irregular shell structure spanning over 10 metres. If you look closely you will discover the merging of many separate flat concrete and steel elements into this curved form.

“The deck becomes furnishing, which becomes counter, which becomes wall, which becomes roof, which goes back to wall, and returns to floor deck.”

- Artistic Clothing Creations -

This is a dress I created for a unit at school. The final task was to create an artistic costume.
After a lot of sketching, researching and test pieces, I came up with this design.
In the process I've learned  a lot of new techniques and tricks white sewing, which inspired me while creating the dress and I  also experimented with a lot of bead work. The materials used to create this dress were crepe de chine and satin. I used angling line and beads to create the bead work.

These above, are 2 dancer's costume me & Maris Callus created for Gianpula. The costume had to have something which isn't usually combined with clothing, and the costumes also had to be easily worn. We used  foil cups, so that when the dancers are dancing they would be constantly reflecting light, which create a nice effect.
Considering the costumes would be worn by different sized dancers , we used rubber so the costumes would stretch to the desired size. The top and the skirt were made with 3 different coloured tulle.
